Truck, Bus, and Heavy Equipment Wash Bay

Wash water recycling for truck, bus, and heavy equipment wash bays handling the higher hydrocarbon and solids load from commercial vehicles and construction equipment.

The Challenge
A heavy duty truck wash uses 200 to 500 litres of fresh water per vehicle; the dirt load is far higher than passenger cars (mud from construction sites, diesel fuel spillage, brake dust, road salt). The discharge consent applies equally; recycling improves both cost and environmental compliance.
Quick Answer

Truck, bus, and heavy equipment wash bay recycling handles the higher hydrocarbon and solids load from commercial vehicles and construction equipment (diesel residue, hydraulic fluid, mud, road salt) using oversized CPI separation and coalescing polishing to recover 50 to 65 percent of the wash water for reuse.

Heavy Vehicle Wash Has Higher Contaminant Load

Truck, bus, and heavy equipment wash bays carry a much higher hydrocarbon and solids load than passenger vehicle car washes: diesel fuel residue from refuelling spills, hydraulic fluid from equipment leaks, mud and grit from construction site work, road salt from winter operations, and brake dust accumulated over high mileage routes. The treatment train must handle this higher load without losing reuse water quality.

Oversized CPI and Robust Coalescer

The SorbiTech truck wash recycling skid uses an oversized CPI separator with a longer plate pack and a larger sludge hopper to handle the higher solids load. The downstream coalescer carries a high solids tolerant pre filter; the carbon polishing bed delivers reuse quality water to the next wash. Backwash frequency is higher than for car wash sites, typically weekly versus monthly.

Wash Bay Drainage and Skid Integration

Heavy vehicle wash bays often use open trench drainage to handle the high volume runoff. The recycling skid takes the trench discharge through a coarse screen and a grit chamber before the CPI. Installation is integrated with the wash bay civil work; SorbiTech handles the complete project where the contract scope includes the wash bay construction.

Sector and Service

Fleet operators (trucking, bus, freight, construction equipment), municipal vehicle depots, military vehicle maintenance bases, agricultural equipment service centres. The SorbiTech service contract handles the spare parts inventory and the scheduled element changeouts. Sector coverage is vehicle services and transport.

Selection Guidance

Oversized CPI separator (longer plate pack, larger sludge hopper), coalescing skid with high solids tolerant pre filter, polishing carbon bed. Higher backwash frequency than car wash sites.
