Laboratory Testing
Pilot and Bench Scale Testing
SorbiTech laboratory testing is the lifecycle service that validates an adsorbent against the actual operator stream before a full scale commitment. The Medaad analytical laboratory runs bench scale tests on operator supplied samples: equilibrium isotherms, breakthrough curves, kinetic tests, decolorization indices, and standard quality parameters. For applications where the host stream chemistry is complex (mixed organic solvents, oily produced water, raw municipal water with seasonal variation), bench testing returns the sizing data that a published isotherm cannot provide.
Test Programme Deliverables
A typical test programme covers:
- Equilibrium isotherm at the operating temperature and partial pressure
- Dynamic breakthrough curve at the design face velocity
- Empty bed contact time (EBCT) determination for liquid phase duties
- Decolorization test against the contracted ICUMSA or colour metric
- Iodine number, methylene blue, hardness, ash, moisture (carbon)
- Crush strength, attrition loss, bulk density (sieves, alumina, support media)
- Recommendation report with grade selection and bed sizing
Pilot Column Service
For duties where a four to eight week pilot column on the actual raw water or process stream is required (typical for municipal water treatment, regulated drinking water programmes, or pharmaceutical purification), SorbiTech supplies the pilot equipment, runs the analytical schedule against accredited laboratories, and delivers the design report with the recommended bed configuration. The pilot data is the regulatory submission attachment for the operator design approval.
